Lot 55: An Ideal General Purpose Riding Saddle
A general purpose riding saddle constructed from leather. The design features a deep seat, fixed knee rolls beneath the flaps, and three girth straps on each side. Yellow metal D-rings are fitted to the front and rear. A green circular metal badge is applied to each side of the pommel, bearing the script lettering IDEAL. No other maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the item.
Saddle Flap Length: 42cm.
Condition report:
The saddle shows significant signs of age and regular use. The leather surfaces are dry and scuffed throughout, with surface cracking visible on the seat, pommel, and skirts (photo 1). Heavy wear and indentation from stirrup leathers are present on the flaps (photo 1). One girth strap features a deep horizontal crack (photo 3). Surface grime and fatty acid migration are visible across the leather (photo 2). The integrity of the internal tree has not been tested.
