Lot 18: A 1983 German Heinrich Porcelain Russian Fairy Tales Maria Morevna Plate
A circular porcelain decorative plate from the Heinrich Russiche Märchen (Russian Fairy Tales) series, produced by Villeroy & Boch. The central scene, after original illustrations by Boris Zvorykin, depicts Koshchey the Immortal abducting Maria Morevna. This polychrome scene is set within a wide decorative border featuring stylised foliate and floral motifs in shades of blue, green, and red on a chocolate-brown ground, finished with a gilded rim. The reverse of the plate bears gold printed text: Die Russischen Märchen, illustriert von Boris Zvorykin, Maria Morevna, Koshchey, der Unsterbliche, entführt Maria Morevna, and Limited Edition 27.500 above a crown logo and the characters HEINRICH GERMANY Villeroy & Boch. A small metal hanging loop is affixed to the centre back. The lot includes a matching German language Zertifikat (Certificate of Authenticity) bearing the printed signature of Wendelin von Boch and an issue date of May 1983, along with the original printed presentation box.
Condition report:
The porcelain plate is in excellent condition with no visible chips, cracks, or restoration. The printed decoration and gilded rim show no signs of rubbing or wear. The accompanying certificate is clean with no tears. The original cardboard presentation box shows minor signs of shelf wear, including surface scuffs and small splits to the corners of the card base (photo 5).
