Lot 161: A Trio of Mid-20th Century Metal Woodworking Hand Tools
This lot comprises three metal woodworking hand tools. The first is a duplex rebate plane, featuring a textured handle and a side casting marked STANLEY within a textured panel. The inner bed of the tool is struck with the legend NO. 78 and MADE IN ENG. The second tool is an adjustable spokeshave with a blue painted finish. The lever cap is marked RECORD and MADE IN, while the body is marked RECORD A151. It is fitted with two knurled adjustment screws. The third item is a small bullnose rebate plane with a knurled thumb screw for blade adjustment. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on this third item.
Condition report:
The Stanley No. 78 plane exhibits significant surface oxidation and pitting throughout the metal body (photo 5). It is missing its lateral fence and depth stop assembly. The Record A151 spokeshave shows small chips and wear to the blue finish, with surface rust present on the adjustment screws and blade (photo 2). The small bullnose plane shows heavy surface rust and oxidation across all surfaces (photo 1).
