Lot 31: Australia 2003 Elizabeth II Port Phillip Pattern One Dollar Coin
An Australian commemorative one dollar coin, struck in a polished white metal. The obverse features the fourth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II facing right at the upper edge, surrounded by the legend ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 2003. A central circular medallion contains a replica of a historical pattern design, featuring a large 1/4 fraction within a textured ring inscribed PERTH AUSTRALIA GOLD and QUARTER OUNCE. The reverse bears the denomination ONE DOLLAR at the top, above a central medallion depicting a kangaroo facing right. The inner border of the medallion is inscribed PORT PHILLIP AUSTRALIA 1855 against a textured lattice ground. The coin is housed in a clear plastic protective capsule. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the item.
Condition report:
The coin shows signs of handling and surface contact. The obverse exhibits several fine hairline scratches across the fields, particularly to the left of the central fraction, and a small dark inclusion is present near the border at the four o\'clock position (photo 2). The reverse shows minor scattered surface hairlines and a small dark mark on the textured ground at the five o\'clock position (photo 1). The coin is housed in its protective clear plastic capsule.
