Lot 141: A Pair of UK 1973 Elizabeth II 50 Pence Proof Coins
A pair of UK 1973 Elizabeth II white metal fifty pence coins, struck with a proof finish. Each coin is of equilateral curve heptagonal form. The obverse of each coin features the Machin portrait of the monarch, facing right and wearing a tiara, surrounded by the struck legend ELIZABETH II D.G.REG.F.D.. The reverse features the nine hands design, representing the member states of the European Economic Community at the time of the United Kingdom’s accession, encircling the central legend 1973 50 PENCE. The strikes are characterised by frosted relief details contrasted against highly reflective, mirrored fields. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the items.
Condition report:
The coins show signs of handling and environmental exposure. The obverse of each coin displays bright, mirrored fields with fine surface hairlines and minor dust particles visible under magnification. The reverses exhibit similar surface characteristics with sharp definition to the frosted relief. No protective capsules or original presentation cases are provided.
