A July 1856 wood engraving, originally appearing as a double-page spread in a contemporary newspaper. The central scene depicts a military formation before the entrance of Buckingham Palace, featuring soldiers in full-dress uniform and bearskin caps. The print is presented in a dark-stained frame with decorative corner mounts. Printed legends at the top of the sheet read 102—JULY 26, 1856.], THE ILLUSTRATED LONDON NEWS, and JULY 26, 1856.—103. The caption below the image reads THE GUARDS CHEERING HER MAJESTY AT BUCKINGHAM PALACE.—(SEE PAGE 92.). A monogram is present in the lower left corner of the plate but is not legible. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the frame.

Condition report:
The print shows signs of significant age-related toning and environmental exposure. A vertical fold line is present through the centre of the image (photo 1). The paper exhibits overall browning and scattered foxing spots, particularly noticeable in the upper left and margin areas (photo 1). The frame displays minor surface abrasions and the decorative corner mounts show signs of tarnishing (photo 1). The glass displays significant glare and surface reflections.
