Lot 364: An English Ideal Leather Horse Saddle with Metal Hardware
An English general-purpose saddle, constructed from dark brown leather with metal hardware. The saddle features a deep seat with a rounded cantle and forward-cut flaps. The underside consists of leather-covered panels, and the piece is fitted with multiple metal D-rings and stirrup bars. The saddle includes three leather billets on each side for girth attachment. A circular green and metal badge is affixed to the pommel side, bearing the script IDEAL. No other maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the item.

Condition report:
The saddle shows signs of heavy use, significant aging, and environmental exposure. The leather across the seat, pommel, and flaps exhibits widespread surface cracking, deep scuffing, and loss of finish (photo 1). The metal hardware shows oxidation and tarnishing consistent with age and use (photo 2). The leather billets show signs of stretching and wear around the adjustment holes (photo 3). The leather appears dry throughout and shows significant leather degradation. No stirrup irons or girth are supplied.
