Lot 358: A Doorstop Depicting a Giant Panda Climbing a Tree
A doorstop, featuring a three-dimensional representation of a giant panda climbing a tree trunk. The panda is depicted with limbs wrapped around the vertical trunk and a forward-extending branch. The piece is decorated with black and white painted markings for the panda, while the trunk and branches are finished in brown. The base of the trunk is set into a textured landscape with blue, white, and green highlights, resting upon a stepped rectangular black base. The item is of solid metal construction with a granular surface texture throughout to simulate fur and bark. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the item.
Condition report:
The doorstop shows signs of functional wear and paint loss throughout. There are visible paint chips and thinning to the panda\'s black and white markings, notably on the raised texture of the fur (photo 1). The tree branches show surface abrasions and loss to the brown finish (photo 1). The blue and white textured base feature exhibits significant areas of missing paint (photo 1). The stepped rectangular base displays minor scuffs and thinning to the black finish (photo 1). No structural damage or repairs are visible.
