An Ernest Turner representational landscape painting, executed in oil on board. The composition features a rural scene with a forked path leading towards several buildings, including a white structure with a red-tiled roof and a larger farmhouse nestled amongst mature, leafy trees. The work is rendered with soft brushwork in a palette of greens, yellows, and blues under a pale sky. The painting is signed ERNEST TURNER in capital letters in the lower-left corner. It is housed in a decorative frame featuring a gilt-finished cove and foliate-patterned outer moulding with a metallic-finished inner lip. The reverse is sealed with white paper and brown tape, and includes a white hanging string. No other maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the item.
Width: 32.5 cm
Height: 28 cm.
Condition report:
The oil on board surface appears stable with no visible craquelure or paint loss, though minor surface dirt is present. The frame shows light wear and scuffing to the gilt and metallic finishes, particularly along the outer edges and the inner lip (photo 1). The paper backing on the verso shows some rippling (photo 3).
