A Mid-20th Century aneroid wall barometer, featuring a circular polished frame and an open centre dial revealing the internal mechanism. The cream-coloured dial is protected by a glass cover within a patterned metal bezel and is equipped with a black indicator hand and a yellow metal setting hand. The dial features gothic-style lettering indicating weather conditions, reading STORMY, RAIN, CHANGE, FAIR, and VERY DRY, with CHANGE and FAIR printed in red. An outer scale is graduated from 28 to 31 inches of mercury. The printed legend MADE IN WESTERN GERMANY is visible at the bottom of the dial. The reverse features a metal backplate with a hammered finish, secured by three screws, and a central aperture for calibration. A white adhesive label bearing the handwritten number 1234 is affixed to the back. A metal hanging ring is attached to the top of the frame. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the item.
Condition report:
The barometer shows signs of age and light handling. Minor surface scratches are visible on the polished frame (photo 1). The metal hanging ring and bezel exhibit some oxidation and tarnishing (photo 1). The dial and glass cover appear clean and intact. The reverse metal plate shows a mottled texture and minor surface marks, and a paper auction label is attached (photo 2). The functional accuracy of the instrument has not been verified.
