This lot comprises an assortment of metal scale weights in various denominations. The collection features numerous disc-shaped weights with recessed centres for stacking, as well as a selection of smaller cylindrical knob-style weights. One large weight with a red painted finish bears the raised legend AVERY 4 lb. Other pieces are cast or struck with denominations including 2 lb, 1 lb, 8 oz, 4 oz, and 20 g. A cylindrical knob weight is stamped with the legend 100 g. The items are finished in several ways, with some retaining original red or white paint while others display exposed metal surfaces. No other maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the pieces.
Condition report:
The collection shows signs of significant age and industrial use. The painted weights exhibit widespread paint loss and surface oxidation across all surfaces. The unpainted metal components show heavy surface pitting, dark tarnish, and a natural patina. Areas of green verdigris are present on the yellow-toned metal weights. The lot is an unsorted group of varying condition. No protective cases or original packaging are supplied.
