A 1976 medallic first day cover issued by the International Society of Postmasters, commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design. The set features a sterling silver proof medal and a cancelled postage stamp housed in a cream-coloured card folder with an integral certificate of authenticity. The medal obverse displays a profile portrait of a bearded man wearing spectacles set against a background of a circle, square, and triangle, with a JP monogram struck at the lower right. The reverse is struck with the legend OFFICIAL COMMEMORATIVE ISSUE HONORING THE 70TH ANNIVERSARY OF BEZALEL ACADEMY FEBRUARY 17, 1976 and EMISSION COMMEMORATIVE OFFICIELLE EN L’HONNEUR DU 70E ANNIVERSAIRE DE L’ACADEMIE BEZALEL LE 17 FEVRIER 1976. A globe logo within a wreath is positioned at the top. A cancelled Israel 1.85 denomination postage stamp is affixed to the cover, displaying a Jerusalem postmark dated 17. 2. 76. The card cover is printed with the text INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY OF POSTMASTERS OFFICIAL COMMEMORATIVE ISSUE and LIMITED EDITION PROOF STERLING SILVER. The certificate is signed by KENNETH O. STROM and GASTON MEUNIER. No other maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the item.
Condition report:
The medallic cover shows signs of environmental exposure and age-related storage wear. The medal obverse exhibits natural golden toning around the peripheries and light surface marks visible under the protective plastic window (photo 2). The reverse displays more pronounced toning across the surface (photo 3). The cream-coloured card cover shows light yellowing and faint edge wear (photo 1). The protective plastic windows exhibit minor surface scratches (photo 3). The item is supplied in its original illustrated card folder.
