This lot comprises a group of UK commemorative two pound coins. The collection includes three coins struck in 1986 to commemorate the XIII Commonwealth Games, each featuring a reverse design with a central thistle motif superimposed on a saltire cross and the legend 1986. Also included is a 1995 coin commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of the United Nations, with a reverse design showing stylised flags and the legend UNITED NATIONS FOR PEACE 1945-1995, and a coin featuring a stylised dove. The obverses all display the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II with the struck legend ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA F D and the denomination TWO POUNDS. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the items.
Condition report:
The coins show signs of environmental exposure, circulation, and handling. The obverses exhibit visible surface wear and contact marks to the portraits and fields (photo 3). The reverses show significant spotting and toning on all specimens. One 1986 coin features deposits of green verdigris around the central thistle motif (photo 1). The 1995 United Nations coin exhibits uneven surface oxidation (photo 2). Fine surface scratches are present across all coins. No protective capsules or presentation cases are supplied.
