A 1937 United Kingdom silver crown, struck to commemorate the coronation of King George VI. The obverse features a bare-headed portrait of the monarch facing left. The struck legend reads GEORGIVS VI D : G : BR : OMN : REX, and the designer initials HP are visible below the neck truncation. The reverse depicts the Royal Arms with lion and unicorn supporters, surmounted by a crown. The legend FID DEF : IND IMP is struck along the upper edge, with CROWN : 1937 at the base. Mottoes on scrolls read DIEU ET MON DROIT and HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE, with the designer initials K G flanking the base of the shield. The coin features a milled edge and is constructed from .500 silver. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the item.
Condition report:
The coin shows signs of light handling and environmental exposure. The obverse retains sharp detail on the hair and portrait with original lustre. Minor surface contact marks and light scratches are visible across the field and portrait (photo 2). The reverse features sharp definition on the crest, supporters, and legends. Attractive peripheral toning is evident, along with scattered light surface marks (photo 1). No protective capsule or original packaging is provided.
