A modern large-format commemorative coin issued for Ascension Island, dated 2025, marking the 85th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain (1940-2025). Struck in five troy ounces of .999 fine silver, the coin features a proof finish with frosted design elements against mirror-polished fields. The obverse bears the portrait of King Charles III by designer Jodie Guyer (initials ‘JG’ at the neck) with the legend ‘ASCENSION ISLAND · TEN POUNDS · KING CHARLES III · 2025’. The reverse features a Supermarine Spitfire in the foreground, a Hawker Hurricane silhouette, and a map of the English Channel, inscribed ‘BATTLE OF BRITAIN’ and ’85 YEARS’. Total weight on scale is 6.254 oz (avoirdupois), which accounts for the 155.5g silver weight plus the protective acrylic capsule. Valuation basis: current silver spot price of approximately 134 GBP for five troy ounces, combined with recent auction results for 5oz British Overseas Territory commemorative silver issues.
Condition report:
The coin is in excellent overall condition and remains housed in its protective capsule. The reverse fields exhibit some minor surface haze or \'milk spotting\' consistent with modern fine silver issues. The acrylic capsule shows surface scuffing and scratches, but the coin itself appears free from physical handling marks.
