Coins, Gold & Silver Bullion Auction
A George I Irish copper halfpenny, part of the series known as Wood’s Coinage, dated 1723. The obverse features a laureate, draped bust of King George I facing right with the legend GEORGIUS DEI GRATIA. The reverse bears the Hibernia design with the legend HIBERNIA and the date 1 7 2 3. Struck by William Wood under a royal patent, these coins were widely circulated in both Ireland and the American colonies.
Condition report:
Good. Significant circulation wear resulting in softened design elements. Extensive surface pitting, corrosion, and dark oxidation across both obverse and reverse faces. Legends remain largely legible.
