A 1797 George III copper Cartwheel penny produced at the Soho Mint. This issue is notable for its exceptionally wide, raised rim containing incuse inscriptions. The obverse features a laureate portrait of the monarch facing right with the legend GEORGIUS III . D : G . REX on the rim. The reverse displays a seated Britannia facing right. The coin is composed of copper and exhibits a dark brown patina.
Condition report:
Heavily circulated condition. Significant wear and flattening to the central devices on both the obverse and reverse. The obverse rim legend is partially legible, while the reverse rim legend and 1797 date are mostly worn away. Numerous surface scratches, contact marks, and minor oxidation spots are visible across both faces.
