Lot 166: A Pair of UK Bank of England Series D One Pound Banknotes J. B. Page Signature Consecutive Numbers
A pair of Bank of England Series D one pound banknotes featuring consecutive serial numbers H11 254538 and H11 254539. The obverse displays a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II to the right, with a central vignette featuring a caduceus. Each note bears the signature of the Chief Cashier J. B. Page. The reverse depicts a portrait of Sir Isaac Newton with an astronomical diagram and a telescope. The notes are printed in a palette of green, yellow, and blue. Security features include an embedded vertical security thread and a watermark of Isaac Newton in the left-hand margin. These examples belong to the Series D issue, which circulated from 1978 until 1988.
Condition report:
Both banknotes are in Uncirculated (UNC) condition. The paper is crisp and bright with sharp, square corners. There are no visible folds, creases, pinholes, or foxing. Centring is excellent on both examples.
