A vintage portable electric record player manufactured by Stella, a British subsidiary of Philips Electrical Ltd. The unit is contained within a suitcase-style cabinet finished in a two-tone grey and white woven pattern fabric with dark blue trim and a black plastic handle. The interior features a single-play turntable with a brown felt-covered platter and a cream plastic motor board. The cream plastic tonearm is equipped with a flip-over cartridge, featuring markings for M (microgroove) and N (normal) alongside red and blue dots. Controls consist of a speed selector lever with settings for 45 and 78 rpm, and two knobs marked T for tone and V for volume. A voltage selector dial allows for settings between 110 and 245 volts. The lid incorporates a speaker unit, vented through a circular metal mesh grille on the top exterior. The unit is fitted with a contemporary UK three-pin plug.
Condition report:
The exterior woven fabric on the lid exhibits significant bubbling and delamination from the casing. Metal components including the latches and handle mounts show visible surface oxidation and rust. Internal plastic parts have developed age-related yellowing and light surface soiling. The felt platter mat shows wear and dust. The unit is sold as an untested historical object and requires inspection by a qualified electrician prior to any attempt at operation.
