A 20th-century occasional or side table constructed from a reddish-toned tropical hardwood. The circular top features a highly figured grain with chatoyant ribbon-stripe patterns, finished with a deep, hand-carved rope-twist border in a contrasting dark stain. The table is coated in a thick, high-gloss lacquer finish. It is supported by four S-scroll shaped legs with a dark-stained finish, which are joined mid-way by a circular lower tier or stretcher mirroring the grain and finish of the tabletop. The legs terminate in stylized feet. There are no maker’s marks, labels, or stamps visible on the piece. The underside shows handling marks in accumulated residue.
Condition report:
The table is in good structural condition. The high-gloss finish on the top is generally well-preserved. There are scuffs, light scratches, and visible wear to the finish on the feet and lower sections of the legs. The rope-carved edge shows minor areas where the darker stain has worn away, revealing the lighter wood beneath. The underside is dusty with handling marks visible in the residue.
