Lot 164: A Collection of Matchbox Models of Yesteryear and Matchbox Originals Die-Cast Vehicles
A collection of Matchbox die-cast metal vehicles comprising two Models of Yesteryear vans, a Matchbox Originals bus, and a presentation outer box. The set includes a 1927 Talbot van finished in dark green and black with a yellow roof and yellow spoked wheels, featuring decals for Dunlop Tyres and Accessories. This model is housed in its original gold-toned window display box marked Y-5. Also included is a second 1927 Talbot van in yellow with red spoked wheels and white-wall tyres, decorated with Merita Old Fashioned Enriched Bread livery, similarly boxed in a Y-5 window display. The collection further contains a Matchbox Originals No. 5 London Bus in red with silver-tone wheels and Matchbox Originals decals, accompanied by a reproduction vintage-style yellow and purple box marked A Moko Lesney Product. The items are contained within a large Matchbox Collectibles presentation box featuring a cream and yellow technical drawing motif and the text Crafted by the Greatest Name in Die-Cast.
Condition report:
The vehicles are in excellent to near-mint condition, appearing to have remained within their original packaging with paintwork and decals intact. The Dunlop van box shows significant creasing and clouding to the clear plastic window, which has partially detached or collapsed. The Merita van box retains a yellow price sticker residue on the window and exhibits typical shelf wear and light corner scuffing. The bus box has minor corner and edge wear but remains structurally sound. The large outer presentation box shows significant wear including scuffing, edge fraying, and multiple creases across the top surface, along with light surface soiling.
