A 1988 United Kingdom proof coin collection issued by the Royal Mint, comprising seven coins and a commemorative plaque. The set includes denominations of one pound, fifty pence, twenty pence, ten pence, five pence, two pence, and one penny. Each coin is struck in proof quality, displaying mirrored fields and frosted relief. The one pound coin is struck in nickel-brass; the fifty pence, twenty pence, ten pence, and five pence are in cupro-nickel; and the two pence and one penny are in bronze. The obverse of each coin features the third portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Raphael Maklouf. Reverse designs include the Royal Arms of the United Kingdom, Britannia, a crowned Tudor Rose, a crowned lion passant guardant, a crowned thistle, the Prince of Wales’s feathers, and a crowned portcullis. The collection is housed in the original Royal Mint blue textured leatherette case with a silver-coloured crest on the lid, featuring the coins in a transparent plastic holder alongside a black plaque inscribed Elizabeth R 1988.
Condition report:
Coins are in uncirculated proof condition with no visible toning or spotting. The transparent plastic display case remains clear. The outer blue leatherette presentation box shows minor shelf wear.
