A hand-painted glazed ceramic revolving music box manufactured by Schmid, featuring the character Hunca Munca from the Beatrix Potter stories. The figurine depicts the mouse character wearing a pink floral-patterned dress and white apron, shown in a domestic scene holding a green-handled broom and a brown dustpan. The figure is mounted on a circular base decorated with yellow and green glazes and incised scrollwork patterns. The side of the base bears the inscribed marks HUNCA MUNCA and Beatrix Potter. The underside features a wooden plate printed with the Schmid script logo, the title The Tale of Two Bad Mice, and copyright marks for F. Warne and Co. The mechanical musical movement is housed within the base and is operated by a white plastic winding key at the bottom.
Condition report:
The ceramic figurine and base appear to be in good overall condition with no visible chips, cracks, or signs of professional repair. There is some minor surface soiling and a few faint blue marks on the white glaze of the apron, likely originating from the manufacturing process. The mechanical winding mechanism is present and intact, although its operational status and musical playback have not been tested.
