A large Neoclassical style pier mirror featuring a rectangular mahogany-stained wooden frame. The top is defined by a projecting cornice decorated with gilded reeded moulding. The upper frieze is ornamented with gilded composition gesso details including a central laurel wreath tied with a ribbon, flanked by draped husk swags and pendant tassels. The base rail is finished with a matching row of gilded husk swags. The mirror contains a single rectangular plate. No maker marks or labels are present.
Condition report:
The mirror plate shows significant foxing and silvering loss along the lower margin. The mahogany-stained frame has minor surface abrasions and wear consistent with age. Gilded gesso ornaments appear largely intact with fine age-related cracking present in some areas.
