A mid-century earthenware vase produced by Cinque Ports Pottery Ltd at The Monastery in Rye. The vessel is of ovoid form with a narrowed neck and a flared rim. The exterior decoration comprises a textured green-glazed mid-section featuring vertical incised sgraffito lines, bordered by horizontal bands in teal and ochre. The neck and lower base are finished in a matte off-white glaze, while the interior is coated in a contrasting dark brown gloss glaze. The base bears a circular blue factory stamp reading CINQUE PORTS POTTERY LTD. around the outer edge with THE MONASTERY RYE in the centre. A small hand-painted ochre mark is also present on the underside.
Condition report:
The vase is in good overall condition. Fine age-related crazing is visible to the glaze on the underside of the base. No chips, cracks, or repairs are evident.
