Buyer's Premium:

A traditional Scottish sgian-dubh of the style associated with mid-20th-century Highland dress. The knife features a carved black wooden hilt, likely bog oak or a stained hardwood, decorated with traditional Celtic interlace knotwork and a thistle-head form pommel. The pommel is finished with a plain brass cap. The polished steel blade is single-edged with a spear point, featuring a short fuller and characteristic decorative scalloping, or jimping, along the back edge of the spine. The item is complete with its original scabbard, featuring a leather-covered rigid core and fitted with brass mounts comprising a shaped locket and a pointed chape. No visible maker marks, date stamps, or military broad arrow marks are present on the blade or the metal mounts.

Condition report:

The blade remains bright but shows surface scratching and minor areas of pitting. The hilt is in good condition with no visible cracks to the carving. The brass mounts show significant wear to the original finish, with loss of gilding and a dark natural patina and oxidation. The leather on the scabbard shows light surface wear but remains intact.
