A pair of gold-plated base metal souvenir tokens based on historical English coinage, issued by The Westminster Collection as part of the 500 Years of the Crown anniversary set. One piece is a replica of a medieval gold noble or sovereign, featuring an obverse of an enthroned King Edward holding a sceptre and orb with the legend EDWARD D G REX ANGL Z FRANC DNS HIB. The reverse displays a floriated cross within a quatrefoil border and the legend IHC AVTEM TRANSIENS PER MEDIVM ILLORVM IBAT. The second piece replicates an Anglo-Saxon silver penny from the reign of Coenwulf, King of Mercia (796-821 AD), showing a stylised profile bust with the legend COENVVLF REX M on the obverse and an eight-petaled floriated design with the legend LONDINI CIVITAS on the reverse. Both tokens exhibit a high-lustre, polished gold-coloured finish.
Condition report:
Uncirculated condition. The tokens show no evidence of wear, handling, or environmental damage. Surfaces are bright and highly reflective.
