A group of British coinage comprising a George III copper Cartwheel coin and several brass threepence pieces. The primary item is a large George III copper coin dated 1797, identified by its characteristic broad, raised rim. The reverse depicts the seated figure of Britannia facing left, holding a trident and olive branch with a shield at her side, accompanied by the inscription BRITANNIA and the date 1797. The obverse bears the laureated portrait of King George III.
The collection also contains a group of twelve-sided nickel-brass threepence coins from the reigns of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II. These coins feature the thrift plant (sea pinks) and the crowned Tudor portcullis reverse designs. Visible dates within this group include 1940, 1943, 1953, 1960, and 1967. Also included are two heavily patinated and worn circular copper or bronze discs, likely of British origin, with designs that have become indistinct through use.
Condition report:
The items are in circulated condition with wear consistent with age and use. The 1797 Cartwheel coin exhibits significant surface oxidation, multiple prominent knocks and indentations to the rim, and smoothing to the high points of the relief. The brass threepence coins show varying degrees of circulation wear, with some displaying surface tarnish and accumulated dirt. The two dark copper discs are heavily worn with a loss of almost all original surface detail.
