A large polychrome porcelain figurine titled i ricordi, produced by Capodimonte and signed by the artist Volta. The narrative piece depicts an elderly couple seated together on a Louis XV style settee; the woman views an open scrapbook while the man sits beside her in a brown suit and patterned waistcoat. The figurine is constructed from matte-finished bisque porcelain with hand-painted details and applied porcelain elements. The man wears a pair of original wire-rimmed spectacles. The circular base is decorated with a gilded rococo-scroll border and features the handwritten inscription i ricordi to the front. The reverse of the base bears the artist signature Volta in blue script.
Base diameter: 21.5 cm (8.5 inches).
Condition report:
Notable loss to the index finger of the woman\'s right hand. Significant fine crazing is visible on the white glazed lower section of the decorative base. Light surface dust is present throughout. Minor losses or nicks may be present on the delicate applied porcelain hair curls.
