An Art Deco style porcelain teacup and saucer, likely bone china and possibly by Aynsley, featuring a distinctive flared corset shaped cup on a pedestal foot. The exterior of the cup and the saucer are decorated in a vibrant green ground-lay. The interior of the cup features a wide geometric border at the rim, consisting of two tiers of checkered pink and blue blocks within a green framework, above a fringe of vertical reddish-brown lines and blue teardrop motifs. The well of the cup contains scattered blue dots on a white ground. The saucer has a matching green ground with a scalloped edge and a raised, moulded scrollwork pattern highlighted with gilding. The central well of the saucer is white, delineated by a gold ring. No maker’s marks or backstamps are visible in the provided image.
Condition report:
The set shows signs of age and use. There is visible wear to the gilding, particularly on the scalloped rim of the saucer and the rim of the cup. A small chip or loss of enamel is present on the rim of the teacup. There are some minor surface scratches and shelf wear consistent with handling.
