This freestanding electric fire basket is constructed from black-painted cast iron in the Neo-Gothic or Tudor Revival style. The decorative backplate features an arched top and is adorned with three fleur-de-lis motifs in relief against a stippled background. The unit is flanked by two integral andirons, each with a twisted stem, a fleur-de-lis finial, and arched dog feet. The front of the basket features a low portcullis-style grate with vertical bars and pointed spade finials. At the centre is a textured orange heating element with V-shaped ventilation apertures. A black metal panel with a ring-pull handle is located at the base, likely concealing the fan and controls. The item is equipped with a power cable.
Condition report:
The object is in fair condition with surface dust and minor wear to the black finish consistent with age and use. The electrical components have not been tested for safety or functionality.
