A hallmarked sterling silver lapel badge for the Air Raid Precautions (ARP) service, manufactured by James Coull. The badge features a Tudor Crown above an oval plaque with a textured, granulated background. Centrally, it bears the raised initials A.R.P. with dots between the letters. The reverse is fitted with a crescent-shaped clip designed for wear through a buttonhole. The reverse lower edge is struck with a full set of British hallmarks, including the maker mark J.C for James Coull, the lion passant indicating .925 sterling silver, the leopard’s head for the London Assay Office, and the date letter c for 1938.
Condition report:
The badge is in very good condition, displaying an attractive aged patina typical of silver from this period. The hallmarks are sharp and easily legible. The crescent buttonhole fitting is securely attached and functional. There is no evidence of significant wear or damage to the raised facial details.
