A collection of five vintage staple-bound softcover picture card albums from the mid-20th century, including four Brooke Bond Tea card albums and one W. D. and H. O. Wills cigarette card album. The group includes the following titles: An Album of Wild Flowers, Second Series, by Keith A. Adamson, issued by W. D. and H. O. Wills (Branch of the Imperial Tobacco Company of Great Britain and Ireland, Ltd.); Asian Wild Life, illustrated and described by C. F. Tunnicliffe, R.A., issued by Brooke Bond and Co. Ltd.; Trees in Britain, illustrated and described by Michael Young, issued by Brooke Bond and Co. Ltd.; Wild Birds in Britain, illustrated and described by C. F. Tunnicliffe, R.A., issued by Brooke Bond and Co. Ltd.; and Wildlife in Danger by Peter Scott, likely issued by Brooke Bond. Each album is designed to house a series of collectible picture cards. Internal pages demonstrate that cards have been pasted into the designated spaces, including species such as the Turnstone, Sparrow Hawk, Moorhen, and Gean (Wild Cherry). The Brooke Bond albums feature an original printed price of Sixpence on the front covers.
Condition report:
The collection shows signs of age and handling consistent with mid-century ephemera. The Wild Flowers album exhibits significant foxing and staining to the front and rear covers. The remaining albums show moderate wear to the spines, corner bumping, and light surface rubbing. Internal pages display typical toning and some light creasing. The albums appear to be partially to largely completed with their respective card sets, though a card-by-card audit has not been conducted.
