Lot 313: A Vintage The Emca City Whistle Made in England
This is a vintage British tubular whistle constructed from nickel-plated brass. The cylindrical barrel is stamped with the inscription THE EMCA CITY WHISTLE MADE IN ENGLAND, with the word EMCA presented in a stylised font. The whistle features a single rectangular sound port, a flared circular mouthpiece, and a top cap with an integrated ring suspension loop. This specific model is a variant of the city pattern whistle produced by J. Hudson and Co. of Birmingham, intended for use by police forces and the general public during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Condition report:
The whistle is in a well-used condition. There is extensive wear and loss to the original nickel plating across the entire surface, exposing the yellowish brass base metal beneath. The exterior exhibits a darkened patina, areas of oxidation, minor pitting, and fine surface scratches consistent with age and historical utility.
