A bi-metallic two-pound coin issued by the Royal Mint in 2002 to commemorate the XVII Commonwealth Games held in Manchester. This specimen represents the England variant, featuring the St George’s Cross within a circular emblem on the reverse. The coin is composed of a cupro-nickel inner disc and a nickel-brass outer ring. The obverse features the fourth definitive portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley, with his initials IRB below the truncation. The surrounding Latin legend reads ELIZABETH II DEI GRA REG FID DEF. The reverse, designed by Matthew Bonaccorsi, depicts a stylised athlete with a celebratory banner, inscribed XVII COMMONWEALTH GAMES 2002 and the denomination £2. Circulated. The coin exhibits moderate surface wear across the high points of the design and numerous contact marks consistent with circulation. There is noticeable oxidation and dark discolouration on the nickel-brass outer ring on both the obverse and reverse. Overall grade: Fine.
