A wheel-thrown earthenware vessel by the artist Christine Gittins, featuring a broad globular body tapering into a long, slender neck. The unglazed surface has been highly burnished to a smooth finish and decorated using a smoke-firing technique, resulting in fine, carbonised wispy lines and soft grey-to-black mottling across the pale clay body. The base is impressed with the maker’s mark, consisting of a circular stamp with a stylised C encircling a G. This item is accompanied by a printed biographical and process information sheet detailing the artist’s move from South Africa to Wales and her establishment of a studio at the Model House Craft and Design Centre in Llantrisant.
Condition report:
The vessel is in excellent original condition, with no visible chips, cracks, or restoration. All surface variations in colour and texture are an intentional result of the smoke-firing process.
