An official Royal Mint proof coinage set issued to mark the transition to decimal currency in the United Kingdom. The collection is presented in a clear plastic display case with a black mounting insert, housed within a black card outer sleeve. The sleeve features the printed title THE DECIMAL COINAGE OF GREAT BRITAIN AND NORTHERN IRELAND 1971 in a white dot-matrix style typeface. The set contains six proof denominations: 50 New Pence, 10 New Pence, 5 New Pence, 2 New Pence, 1 New Penny, and 1/2 New Penny. A square bronze commemorative medallion featuring the Royal Mint crest is situated at the top of the display.
Condition report:
The coins exhibit proof finishes with mirrored fields and frosted devices. The cupro-nickel 10p and 5p denominations show visible toning and surface patination. The black card outer sleeve displays minor shelf wear, including light scuffing and rubbing to the corners and edges. The clear plastic display case remains in good structural condition.
