Buyer's Premium:

This lot comprises two British Rail (BR) uniform peaked caps and an associated waterproof cover, dating from the late 20th century. Both items feature the British Rail Double Arrow logo, which was designed by the Design Research Unit and introduced in 1965.

The first cap is a driver’s style greasetop hat, constructed from navy blue fabric with a matching fabric peak. It features an embroidered cloth patch on the front with the Double Arrow logo in white and silver threads on a red rectangular ground. The interior is lined and includes a clear diamond-shaped plastic protector in the crown.

The second cap is a formal peaked cap, commonly worn by station staff or guards. It is made from navy blue wool and features a silver-tone metal Double Arrow badge. The cap has a reinforced structure with a polished black synthetic peak and a green underside. The interior is fitted with a brown synthetic leather sweatband.

The lot also includes a black waterproof vinyl cap cover designed for use in inclement weather.

Condition report:

Both items are in used condition. The fabric surfaces show minor surface dust and lint. The first cap is in overall good condition. The second cap shows significant deterioration to the synthetic leather sweatband, which is flaking and peeling away from the backing material. The metal badge on the second cap shows minor surface wear. The waterproof cover shows signs of use with minor creasing throughout.
