A mid-century modern two-tier side table, often referred to as a step end table, manufactured by the British firm Vanson (W.G. Evans and Sons Ltd). This design is commonly attributed to Peter Hayward. The piece is constructed with two rectangular surfaces featuring well-figured wood veneers, likely teak or afromosia, showing a distinct horizontal grain. The base is supported by four tapered, splayed legs. The smaller upper tier is elevated by two inset angled and tapered supports. On the underside of the frame is an original black rectangular metal maker’s plate with white text that reads: THIS IS A Vanson PRODUCTION.
Condition report:
The item displays visible signs of age and use. Most notably, there is a significant longitudinal crack extending across the veneer of the upper tier. The surfaces show minor scuffs, light scratches, and general wear to the finish. The structural integrity of the legs and tiers appears sound.
