A Gothic Revival style electric fire basket or hearth heater constructed from cast iron with a black painted finish. The design features a tall, arched backplate decorated with three fleur-de-lis motifs in relief set against a cast hammered-effect background. The front of the grate is composed of vertical bars and decorative scrolls. The unit is flanked by integral andirons or fire dogs, each topped with a fleur-de-lis finial on a twisted stem. Within the grate sits a rectangular textured orange block designed to simulate glowing embers, likely made from a heat-resistant material such as fiberglass. A black metal base with a single ring pull handle is positioned beneath the grate, presumably housing the electrical controls or heating element. The item is fitted with a standard UK three-pin power cable. No maker marks or signatures are visible on the exterior.
Condition report:
The item is in used condition with visible surface wear across the cast iron components. There are patches of light oxidation and thinning to the black paint, particularly on the grate bars and backplate. The simulated fuel bed shows surface markings, dust accumulation, and some age-related discoloration. The electrical cord and plug are present, but the unit has not been tested for electrical safety or functionality. Professional inspection and PAT testing are recommended before use.
