Produced by John Beswick Ltd of Longton, Staffordshire, this mid-20th-century earthenware fruit or serving bowl features a wide, shallow circular form. The interior is finished in a buff-cream glaze with a shaded light green rim. It is centrally decorated with a vibrant still-life motif depicting a pineapple, a stemmed glass of red wine, a tomato, and an aubergine. The decoration consists of black transfer-printed outlines with hand-painted polychrome colour washes. The base bears a green printed backstamp with the word Beswick in script, followed by Ware and the block capitals MADE IN ENGLAND.
Diameter: 23 cm
Height: 9 cm.
Condition report:
The bowl exhibits extensive and uniform crazing to the glaze on both the interior and exterior surfaces. There is minor localised staining trapped within the crazing on the underside of the base. No chips, cracks, or structural repairs are visible.
