An industrial watchman’s tell-tale clock or time recorder manufactured by Llewellen’s Machine Co. Ltd of Bristol. The device is housed in a heavy, drum-shaped circular metal case featuring a textured, hammered finish. The white circular dial displays black Arabic numerals from 1 to 12 and is protected by a brass-rimmed bezel with a glass cover. The dial is printed with the manufacturer’s name LLEWELLEN’S MACHINE Co LTD, the location BRISTOL, and the name MAWERS, likely representing the distributor or retailer. A keyhole-shaped aperture is located on the side of the drum, designed for the insertion of station keys to record patrol times on an internal mechanism. The hinged lid opens to reveal a mechanical brass movement with plates featuring engine-turned perlage decoration, incorporating various gears, posts, and a recording apparatus. A central winding arbor is accessible through the front of the case.
Condition report:
The item is in an as found condition with visible surface wear, oxidation, and pitting to the metal case. The brass bezel shows significant patination and tarnish. The mechanical movement appears to be intact; however, it has not been tested for working order. No station keys or winding keys are present with the lot.
