A mid-20th-century porcelain coffee service manufactured by Johann Seltmann in Vohenstrauß, Bavaria. The service features a reflective gold lustre glaze with contrasting white glazed interiors. The set is composed of a tall coffee pot with a fitted lid and stylized finial, a lidded sugar bowl with matching finial, a cream pitcher, six cups, and six saucers. The forms exhibit a tapered mid-century design. The base of the pieces bears a brown backstamp featuring a crown symbol, the word BAVARIA, and the script Johann Seltmann Vohenstrauß. The mark also includes the word Foreign, indicating it was produced for the export market, and the number 22.
Condition report:
The gold lustre finish displays minor surface wear and light scratching consistent with age and domestic use. A fine hairline crack is visible on the rim of one saucer, extending toward the centre. No other major chips or large-scale repairs are immediately visible on the main service pieces.
