A mid-20th-century musical novelty liquor decanter, modelled as a horse’s head. The body is constructed from moulded amber glass with detailed anatomical features. It is adorned with gold-toned metal mounts forming a bridle, featuring a textured crackle finish on the browband and noseband, circular medallions at the cheek, and decorative draped multi-strand chains. The piece is mounted on a cylindrical gold-toned metal base that houses a wind-up musical mechanism. The top of the head is fitted with a metal pouring spout and a removable, pointed conical metal cap. The underside of the base is stamped with JAPAN and retains a gold-coloured foil label identifying the melody played by the music box as How Dry I Am.
Condition report:
The amber glass is in good condition without visible chips or cracks. The gold-toned metalwork shows signs of age-appropriate wear and minor tarnishing, particularly on the textured sections of the bridle and the base. The mechanical function of the music box is untested.
