A mid-20th century chest of drawers, characteristic of British domestic furniture from the late 1940s to the 1950s. The piece features three full-width drawers, each faced with quartersawn oak veneers that exhibit a distinct tiger or flake grain pattern. The top surface is similarly veneered and includes a small, shaped gallery back or upstand. The design incorporates rounded front edges and sits upon an integrated plinth base. Each drawer is equipped with a pair of matching decorative cast metal handles, finished in a bronzed tone with scrolled and floral motifs. The drawer boxes are constructed using a lighter secondary timber, likely a pale hardwood or plywood. No maker’s marks or stamps were identified during inspection.
Condition report:
The chest remains in a good and stable condition. There are signs of age and use, including various minor scuffs, scratches, and some thinning of the finish, particularly to the top surface and edges. The drawer interiors show light staining and wear consistent with previous use. All hardware is present and appears to be original to the piece.
