A mid-20th-century Italian tea trolley or bar cart in the Sorrento style. The piece is constructed with highly polished wood veneers featuring intricate floral and foliate marquetry inlays in contrasting light woods to the top and lower shelf. The top is of a drop-leaf design, forming an oval shape when extended and a rectangular profile when closed, with the leaves supported by pull-out brackets. The structure is supported by four turned wooden legs. The lower shelf incorporates six integrated brass-toned metal bottle holders, arranged in groups of three on either side of the central inlay. The cart is fitted with an ornate cast metal handle featuring a turned wooden handgrip. It is mounted on two large, six-spoked brass-toned metal wheels with black rubber tyres at the front and two small metal swivel castors at the rear.
Condition report:
The trolley is in good vintage condition with signs of age-appropriate wear. A visible white surface scuff is present on the high-gloss lacquer finish at the centre of the top panel. There is minor wear and small chips to the veneer along the edges. The metal hardware shows light tarnishing throughout. The rubber tyres exhibit signs of age but remain intact.
