A collection of seven late 19th and early 20th-century bottles comprising both glass and stoneware examples. Included is a large pale green glass bottle embossed with cursive script reading Shipstones above block capitals reading NOTTINGHAM, identifying it as from Shipstone’s Brewery. The stoneware components consist of a brown salt-glazed flagon with a cylindrical body and a pinched pouring lip, typical of a master ink bottle, and a smaller brown salt-glazed cylindrical inkwell with a recessed top and central aperture. The glass portion of the group further contains a dark olive green bottle of the type used for stout or ale, alongside three additional pale green glass bottles of varying utility and medicinal forms.
Condition report:
The larger stoneware flagon exhibits a small chip to the shoulder and rim. The smaller stoneware jar appears to be in good order. The glass bottles display varying levels of internal cloudiness, residue, and surface scratching typical of age and recovery. No major cracks are visible.
