A decorative Italian art pottery basket of organic form, crafted from glazed earthenware. The body is modelled as overlapping leaves with scalloped rims, surmounted by a substantial twisted branch-form handle. The exterior is further embellished with applied relief decoration in the form of flowers and berries. The piece features hand-painted mottled glazes in shades of forest green at the base, transitioning to a dusty pink and mauve palette towards the rim and handle. Decorative elements including the leaf veins and scalloped edges are highlighted with hand-applied gold gilt. The base is marked with a hand-painted black inscription reading .ITALY with three small dots positioned beneath the letter T.
Condition report:
The basket is in generally good condition. Minor rubbing to the gilt decoration is visible on the high points, consistent with age and handling. No major chips, cracks, or repairs are evident from visual inspection. Minor firing imperfections typical of this type of art pottery may be present.
