A late Victorian era 925 silver collar necklace in the book chain style, featuring a large oval locket pendant. The wide chain is constructed from articulated, decorative links with multi-lobed scalloped edges and central panels featuring foliate engraving. The substantial oval locket is decorated with hand-chased and engraved patterns, including a central fern leaf motif surrounded by geometric frames and textured borders. The locket opens on a side hinge to reveal two compartments. Internal surfaces bear hand-scratched marks, including the characters IV and several zigzag lines. The necklace is secured with a large bolt ring clasp.
