Buyer's Premium:

A late 19th or early 20th-century English biscuit barrel of coopered oak construction. The cylindrical body is formed from oak staves with horizontal banding and features silver-toned metal mounts, including a rim, a hinged swing handle, and a matching circular domed lid topped with a central knop finial. A blank shield-shaped metal cartouche is pinned to the front face of the wooden body. The interior is fitted with a removable cream-coloured glazed ceramic liner. The barrel is accompanied by a collection of hand-painted carved wooden objects in the form of various fruit and nuts, including items resembling a lime, apple, lemon, gourd, and acorn. The base of the ceramic liner features a fragmentary blue mark, including the number 7.

Condition report:

The item is in good vintage condition. There is minor surface wear and light scuffing to the metal components consistent with age and use. The oak staves show a rich grain and natural patina. The ceramic liner exhibits some minor staining and shelf-wear marks on the base. The carved wooden pieces show some loss and thinning to the painted finish.
